Heluna Health is pleased to share that our Little by Little School Readiness Program (LBL) will be sustained for another three years thanks to a generous grant from Ballmer Group.
LBL is an evidence-based early literacy program of PHFE WIC, part of Heluna Heath’s Breastfeeding and Nutrition Services team, providing free, high-quality books and parental support and instruction for families engaged in the WIC program. The program focuses on children aged 0-5, fostering early literacy skills, improving school readiness, and helping children prepare for success in school and life.

The grant from Ballmer Group will support programming at three key WIC Little by Little “hub” sites in Los Angeles County that serve 18,500 participants annually. This support will provide 160,000 books to families over three years and enable strategic planning to diversify funding, ensuring the program’s sustainability and demonstrating its impact on WIC retention and community service delivery.
“Research has shown that children who go through LBL are more school ready than those who do noti, and so we are deeply grateful to Ballmer Group for providing generous support to continue this essential program,” shared Dr. Blayne Cutler, Heluna Health CEO.

The consequences of low literacy can have a profound impact on a child’s success in school and in life. LBL is designed to foster early literacy habits at home and ensures that families have the resources and knowledge they need to help their children develop a rich vocabulary, self-expression, and reading comprehension, all essential tools for becoming successful readers and lifelong learners. Many thanks to Ballmer Group for their support of this crucial program.
