Nonprofit Leader in Optimizing Population Health Plays Key Role as Government Shutdown Impacts Health Service Delivery

City of Industry, CA: Heluna Health celebrated the launch of its 50th anniversary year this week, demonstrating the value of its role in strengthening national population health partnerships in the face of a federal government shutdown. A leading provider of program and support services to more than 300 health initiatives with over $120M in funds, Heluna Health’s services are uniquely positioned to ensure public health stability as uncertainties tied to government funding sources increase.

Non-governmental partnerships fill gaps to ensure continuity of health and social services, which is increasingly important during volatile political and economic events. Over the past 50 years, Heluna Health has developed a reliable support model to serve researchers, clinicians, and health practitioners with a suite of services, including fiscal, contract management, and human resources support. “This partner support model serves as an important bridge between clinical and governmental population health, and has proven to build efficiencies into program and fund management,” says Dr. Blayne Cutler, President and CEO of Heluna Health. “Because of the uncertainties we’re facing in this new climate, we’re seeing a shift toward models like ours.”

“We’re also seeing a shift in the ways population health and clinical health care providers work more collaboratively to improve health outcomes,” notes Dr. Cutler. “As the trend toward coalition-building grows, nonprofit agencies like Heluna Health act as a neutral ‘hub’ to manage administrative functions and ensure that the coalition reaches its target health outcomes.”

Highlights from Heluna Health’s history include:

  • A partnership with the Surgeon General’s office under President Obama, mobilizing health providers to fight the opioid epidemic.
  • A collaboration with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s 100 Million Healthier Lives movement to improve health for 100M individuals by 2020.
  • Nutrition services for 295,000 individuals from vulnerable families annually, including healthy foods, nutrition education, and breastfeeding counseling, through its 48 PHFE WIC (Women, Infants and Children) centers throughout Southern California
